HCG 5000IU, is a preparation of human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) acquired using a specialized process from the urine of pregnant women. Pregnyl or HCG stimulates steroidogenesis in the gonads through a biologic effect resemblingthat of LH (luteinising hormone, thi is the same as interstitial cell stimulating hormone). In males it helps tp promote the production of testosterone and with females the production of estrogens and more specifically that of progesterone after ovulation. In some instances, Pregnyl HCG is used in combination with a follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). Because Pregnyl hCG is of human origin, no antibody formation should be anticipated.

HCG 5000IU WARNINGS For females: With pregnancies occurring following induction of ovulation with gonadotrophic preparations, there is an augmented risk of multiplets. Since infertile women undergoing assisted reproduction, and particularly IVF (in vitro fertilisation), often have tubal abnormalities the incidence of ectopic pregnancies may be increased as well. An early stage ultrasound should be used to confirm if of a pregnancy is intrauterine. Rates of miscarriage in women undergoing Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) tend to occur at a higher rate than in the normal population. The presence of uncontrolled non-gonadal endocrinopathies (e.g. thyroid, adrenal or pituitary disorders) should be ruled out.
