Imitrex tablets are not advised for patients who have had myocardial infarction or have ischaemic heart disease, coronary vasospasm also known as Prinzmetal's angina. Furthermore, Imigran is not prescribed for patients with peripheral vascular disease or persons with symptoms or signs of ischaemic heart disease.
Imigran should not be given to persons who have had a history of cerebovascular accident aka CVA, or transient ischaemic attack aka TIA.
Patients with severe hepatic impairment should not be prescribed Sumatriptan.
Patients who have a history of moderate and severe hypertension and/or mild uncontrolled hypertension should not take Imitrex.
The concomitant administration of ergotamine or derivatives of ergotamine (including methysergide) or any triptan/5-hydroxytryptamine1 (5-HT1) receptor agonist with sumatriptan is also contraindicated.
Concurrent administration of monoamine oxidase inhibitors and Imigran is contraindicated.
Imitrex Sumatriptan Tablets must not be used within two weeks of discontinuation of therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
Do not take Imigran without first fully informing yourself about the medication and consulting with your physician.
